| Departing AUS
The objective of this page is to provide staff leaving the American University of Sharjah with comprehensive information about what they need to do to ensure a smooth exit from the university in conjunction with the information provided by Human Resource Services Department (HRSD).
Air Tickets:
If you are eligible for a repatriation air ticket, you may book your tickets through the SNTTA Office located on the Student Center or you may request an encashment of your ticket.
Cargo:
If you are eligible for baggage allowance:
- You are entitled to reimbursement of your actual shipping costs for up to the cost of airfreight shipment of 250 kgs of unaccompanied baggage.
- You may choose a combination (i.e. shipment by air and sea) but you may not exceed the cost of airfreight shipment of 250 kgs.
- HRSD will assist you in identifying a shipping company. On request you will be informed of the airfreight price per kilo to your point of origin as stated in your Employment Contract.
- Should you choose to use a shipping company other than the one recommended by HRSD, you must submit to HRSD an original receipt or invoice for the actual amount of your unaccompanied baggage shipment together with a reimbursement claim form. You will be reimbursed within five working days from the date you submit your reimbursement claim form with the original receipt/invoice attached.
- AUS will not issue cash in advance for your unaccompanied baggage, you must submit the original receipt or invoice.
Prior to Cancellation of Visa:
1. Telephone (On campus residences): In order to help HRSD in processing your final settlement we would suggest that you disconnect your telephone two weeks prior to leaving. You may disconnect the "0" by calling the I.T. Department Help Desk. This will ensure that there is no waiting period for telephone bills. Prepaid Telephone Cards can be purchased from Finance Dept. which will enable you to continue making international calls or calls within UAE.
2. Bank Clearance: If applicable, please obtain a clearance letter from your bank and submit to HRSD.
Cancellation of Visa(s):
Cancellation will depend on your expected date of departure. Please submit your passport and your dependents passports to Public Relations Department well in advance of your departure. Following the cancellation of your Visa you may remain in the UAE for up to a further 30 days. The cancellation process will be handled by Public Relations. First your dependents will be cancelled and then your visa will be cancelled. The entire process should take approximately 3 to 4 working days. Should you require further clarification please contact the Public Relations Department.
Following cancellation of your visa and completion of all clearance formalities, all monies owing including the Indemnity if applicable, will be paid.
Prior to Departure:
If you live on campus please contact the Housing and Transportation Services and arrange an appointment to complete the Inventory on your accommodation one week before your departure.
Please cancel your satellite connection in writing to the Facilities Department.
AUS Assets:
Please make sure to return library books one week prior to your intended departure date. Kindly hand over the medical insurance card/s, AUS ID card, AUS car sticker/s, laptops, mobile phones, keys, & any other assets of AUS needs to be returned to the respective Departments before you leave.
