INTRODUCTION
Purpose and Scope of the Human Resource Policy Manual
The Human Resource Policy Manual has been established to provide written guidelines to be used for the management of the university's most valuable asset, its human resources. These policies are intended to create order and consistency in the day to day operation of the American University of Sharjah, hereinafter referred to throughout the manual as AUS.
AUS reserves the right to establish, amend, modify, apply, rescind administer, and interpret its policies at any time and to publish written amendments or additions to this manual approved and signed by the chancellor.
The policies in this manual, as adopted by the Board of Trustees on May 28, 2003, with effect on June 1, 2003, supersede and replace all previous human resources policies of the American University of Sharjah.
The AUS Chancellor delegates the responsibility to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration to ensure that policies are up to date with current US and local United Arab Emirates employment laws. Further, the chancellor empowers the vice chancellor to ensure that all AUS deans, directors, department heads and managers adhere to these policies with consistency and in the spirit of the AUS mission and organization values.
The Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration delegates the maintenance and interpretation of this manual to Human Resource Services Department (HRSD). HRSD will ensure that the manual is distributed and available to all AUS administrators and managers to serve as a reference guide in handling employee matters.
Certain provisions of the human resources policies and procedures, as published and amended, apply to all employees, faculty and staff alike. This manual and the policies and procedures therein do not constitute or reflect the terms and conditions of an employment contract between AUS and any employee.
In cases where an employment contract of a faculty or non faculty employee conflicts with the policy manual, the provisions of the individual's employment contract will apply.
