Career Advising and Placement Services (CAPS)
Career Advising and Placement Services (CAPS) provides a variety of services to students, employers, alumni and faculty members. Providing career information, placement services and career counseling is the core of CAPS’ program. Students often have misconceptions about majors and unfortunately base their choices on wrong information. This can lead to a change of major or to academic frustration, which may result in delayed graduation or drop out. Through one-on-one counseling sessions, CAPS staff members help students make the right start on their career path.
In addition to individual guidance, CAPS offers presentations and workshops on topics that help students develop their job searching skills and build their time management, teamwork and communication skills. Other CAPS programs focus on career opportunities available to specific majors.
CAPS has been successful in its outreach programs. Most of its activities focus on the interaction between AUS and the industry and on providing counseling and career-oriented support to academic programs. Results of this interaction include potential employers participating in the annual Career Fair and Engineering Open Day, and students experiencing and benefiting from the work environment through internships and full-time employment.
Feedback from employers and students has been very positive. Through CAPS, students identify internship, training and employment opportunities that enhance their knowledge and professional experience in different fields of study. In addition, employers identify excellent candidates for their vacancies through CAPS.
