Commencement Information

Each academic year, AUS hosts two commencements: the Fall Commencement and the Spring Commencement. The Fall Commencement recognizes students who completed their degrees in either the corresponding fall semester or in the preceding summer term. The spring commencement recognizes students who completed their degrees in the corresponding spring semester.

Graduation Phot

Eligibility to Participate

To participate to a commencement, students must:

  1. File the Application for Graduation as they register for what they expect to be their final semester of study;
  2. Register for their final courses in what they expect to be their final semester of study;
  3. Have not walked or qualified to walk in a preceding commencement.

Note that:  Passing all your final courses is not a condition for participating in the commencement of your graduation semester. All graduating students who are registered in their final courses up until the end of the withdrawal period (10th week of classes) of their graduation semester are eligible to walk in the commencement of their graduation semester even if they do not pass their final courses. Nevertheless, meeting all your degree graduation requirements is a must to earn your university diploma.

Graduation Clearance

You need to check your Banner Web account to see if you still have any holds to clear before commencement.

Note: Please contact your program of study regarding any academic obligations and the Office of Student Accounts for all financial matters

Application for Graduation

Candidates for degrees should submit the Application for Graduation form to the Office of the Registrar during the registration period for their final semester of study. (Most students will have already filed for graduation.)

Only after application for graduation has been made can the Office of the Registrar begin processing the necessary information for final clearance for graduation.

Students should file this application to graduate for summer, fall or spring as they register for what they expect is their final semester of study.

Students who fail to complete all degree requirements by the end of the semester for which they applied to graduate need not apply. Their application will be automatically forwarded to the following semester.

The application triggers a review of the student's academic record to determine whether it is possible for the student to complete degree requirements at the end of that term. Students whose records indicate they are on schedule to graduate at the end of the term for which they have applied are invited to commencement.

Note: You must check that your major is the correct one on the system through browsing your Banner account. Click here to login to your Banner-web account.

If You Are Not Attending Commencement (Graduate in Absentia)

On the Application for Graduation form , students should indicate whether or not they would be attending the commencement ceremony. Those not attending must fill out the absentia form. This helps the Office of the Registrar plan for services and seating for the graduates who will attend the ceremony.

If your response has changed and/or you are going to attend your commencement ceremony, you must inform the Office of the Registrar, in writing at P.O. Box 26666, Sharjah, UAE, or send an e-mail to llukwaro@aus.edu.

You will be informed through your AUS email when diploma/certificates are ready for collection. All holds on a student record should be cleared before the diploma can be collected.

Update Your Address

Submit any changes in your local or permanent addresses immediately to the Office of the Registrar to ensure that all important university mailings, are delivered to the correct destination. It is especially important that before leaving AUS all graduates update their permanent addresses though the Change of Graduate Information form.
