Biography

Dr. Qaddoumi Joined AUS as an assistant professor on September 1, 1999. He was a postdoctoral fellow (research associate and lecturer) at Colorado State University from February 1998 to August 1999. He was a graduate teaching/research assistant at Colorado State University from January 1991 to January 1998. During the period he spent at CSU, he led the efforts on many of research projects funded by both the government and industry. His research was/is in the applied microwave systems, antennas and microwave nondestructive testing of materials including:

• NDT of concrete structures to examine W/C ratio in the fresh and hardened concrete using Microwave reflection techniques. Inspecting concrete for constituent determination, reinforcing-bar location, chloride detection, safety evaluation, etc. Detecting grout in masonry and test for segregation in real-life concrete structure. Using special probes to assess concrete strength.
• Crack detection in bridges and other structures (metallic and otherwise).
• Accurate thickness measurements of coatings, single dIEEEctric slabs (paint), and layered dIEEEctric composites. Detection of minute thickness variations in each layer of a stratified dIEEEctric medium.
• Detection of disbonds, delaminations, and voids in stratified media and (potentially) the determination of the depth of these flaws.
• Inspection of thick plastics and glass-reinforced composites for interior flaws, fiber-bundle orientation and breakage, moisture content, etc.
• Detection and evaluation of corrosion under paint and thick stratified composite-laminate coatings. Detection and estimation of porosity.
• Fiber orientation determination in composites. Cure states monitoring in chemically reactive materials such as carbon-loaded rubber, resin binder, cementious materials, etc.
• Imaging of localized and extended-area interior and surface defects.
