Biography
Dr. El-Tarhuni received the BSc and MSc degrees from Garyounis University, Benghazi, Libya, in 1986 and 1990, respectively, and the PhD degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada in 1997, all in electrical engineering.
He was with the General Electric Company of Libya (GECOL) from 1987 to 1993 as a telecommunications engineer and manager of communications department in Benghazi's branch.
From 1997 to 2000 he was with Nortel Networks, Ottawa, Canada, as a member of scientific staff working in third generation wireless communication systems using CDMA technology.
Dr. El-Tarhuni joined the American University of Sharjah as assistant professor of electrical engineering in September 2000. He is currently an associate professor and chair of the department. Dr. El-Tarhuni is a senior member of IEEE, and is/was a technical program member of many IEEE conferences such as ICC04, VTC06 and PIMRC06. He served as the IEEE Industry Relations Officer for UAE Section from 2002 to 2006.
Dr. El-Tarhuni was the director for the Cisco Regional Networking Academy at AUS from 2001 to 2006.
