Research and/or other scholarly work in progress
Working as part of an interdisciplinary AUS team of researchers interested in earthquakes. I am interested in the international politics of earthquakes, how we learn lessons from earthquakes, the socio-political implications of earthquakes, the role of the media in covering earthquakes and the responses of governmental and nongovernmental organizations to earthquakes. One of my Spring 2004 classes is preparing a volume on the responses of international organizations to the Bam earthquake of December 2003.
Preparing a book on John Nelson (1873-1936), a founding member of the Institute of Pacific Relations, the impetus behind the founding of the Canadian Institute of International Affairs, and a former president of Rotary International (manuscript due to be completed in Spring 2004).
Preparing a series of journal articles (with Nada Mourtada-Sabbah, AUS) arising from a survey of attitudes toward international affairs in the United Arab Emirates that we conducted in Spring 2003.
