Are you one of those lucky people faced with making sense of data in order to get your research published?  Lucky? Yes!! At least that is what I think. Nothing is more fun than digging through columns of numbers to hunt for truth that pushes knowledge ahead another generation!!

Do you ever find yourself in one of the following situations?

• You are just beginning to think about your research project, and your topic requires interpretation of measurements collected by you or by someone else in the field.  Then you are probably very keen to talk to someone who knows something about drawing conclusions from such data.  I am happy to hear about your research and to assist you through the data handling process.
  • You have designed an experiment or a survey and you want to check that it will give you the data you need, in particular, whether your planned number of measurements will be enough.  I can check out your plans and tell you whether your proposed measurements will answer the questions you hope they will. Also, I can suggest some sampling strategies that will generate clear conclusions and generalize them to your target population.

  Statisticians are of most help at the planning stages of a data-gathering exercise.

  1. You have just finished your data collection exercise and you do not have the slightest idea how to analyze all of that data.    I will suggest simple summaries of your data, both graphical and numerical, that will immediately suggest whether the questions you have in mind are answered or not. Then I will explore with you the question of what statistical procedures are required to convince others that your conclusions are sound.
  2. You know what statistical method is appropriate for the analysis of your data and you know you will need a computer, but you have not used a computer for statistics before and you do not know how to get started.  I will introduce you to a statistical package that suits your purposes and help you use it for the type of analysis you need.
  3. You have a statistics package available in your department but you are not sure how to use it for the analysis you need. I can assist you in carrying out the analysis and interpreting the results of the computer package.

  In addition to the above, data analysis and interpretation can be provided in written reports to assist in the preparation of research manuscripts
