FDC Services

Workshops, Seminars, and Teaching & Learning Circles:

The FDC provides workshops, seminars, and teaching/Learning circles throughout the academic year on topics related to teaching practices and effectiveness, classroom management, improving students’ learning, instructional technology, and educational research.

Individual Consultation:

The FDC provides Individual assistance to help faculty members with specific concerns related to classroom teaching and learning.  Some of these include: improving students’ participation, identifying classroom management issues, resolving classroom cultural conflicts,

Class visits:

Teachers are always involved in monitoring and investigating their teaching practices and their students’ learning. A class visit by a colleague is a great opportunity for teachers to get feedback on aspects of their teaching practices (e.g., praising students, giving feedback, questioning techniques, classroom management, etc.).  An FDC representative (a trained faculty member in classroom observation techniques) is willing to visit one (or more) of your classes at your request. If you are interested, please send an email to fdc@aus.edu to schedule a class visit. Informal visits such as these are often more beneficial when the observer knows what to look for. Therefore, a brief meeting before the observation is usually held, followed by a discussion as soon after the class as possible. These meetings, in addition to the visit itself, provide the opportunity to open dialogue on issues pertaining to teaching, learning and classroom experiences as per the FDC mission statement.

Statistical consultation:

The FDC provides this service to assist faculty with their research statistical needs.  This service is provided by Dr. Hana Sulieman, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. For detailed information about this service and how you can utilize it, please click here.

Instructional Technology Support:

The FDC supports individual faculty members in using instructional technology in their classrooms.  If you need personalized assistance, please let us know by sending an email to fdc@aus.edu.
