Some of the frequently asked questions are answered below:

What is the Student Code of Conduct?
The Student Code of Conduct is a set of university rules and regulations outlined in the Student Handbook. Violation of these rules is treated as misconduct.

What is a letter of reprimand?
A letter of reprimand is a written warning issued for violating the Student Code of Conduct.

When do you receive a first warning letter?
You receive a first warning letter after receiving a reprimand letter for repeatedly violating the Student Code of Conduct.

What is a Conduct Council Hearing Board?
It is a group of individuals from the AUS administration who are in authoritative positions and who help with rational scrutiny of a particular case and recommend appropriate sanctions in an open discussion form.

What is a Conduct Council Hearing?
In a situation when it is necessary that an incident requires the intervention of the Conduct Council Hearing Board to decide on the sanctions for gross violation of the Student Code of Conduct, a hearing is organized to meet the complainant and the respondent.

What is Conduct Probation?
Conduct Probation is a stipulated term when the student's behavior is watched for being involved in a particular violation.

What is Social Probation?
Social Probation is 5 to 10 hours of honorary work with any department of AUS as directed by the concerned authorities.

Who is responsible for implementing the Student Code of Conduct?
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is responsible for implementing the Student Code of Conduct.

If I am found responsible for violating the Student Code of Conduct, what will be the consequences?
If the violation has occurred for the first time, you will be warned verbally. If it is repeated, you will receive a reprimand letter. If it continues to take place, you will receive a first warning letter copied to your parents and your school as well. If it does not stop despite the first warning letter, you will be issued a second warning letter or dismissed depending on how grave your involvement is.

Can I appeal a decision?
You may fill in a petition at Judicial Affairs. This appeal will be sent to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for a decision.

What about the witnesses?
Witnesses are questioned and their opinion is considered important in resolving the matter.

When can I appeal a decision?
You may appeal a decision within 10 working days of receiving the sanctions in writing.

What are judicial records?
When an incident is reported, Judicial Affairs opens a file for the students involved and maintains a record.

How many years are these records maintained with Judicial Affairs?
These records are maintained for five years.

What should I do if I am unable to attend a hearing?
You must contact the Judicial Affairs Director immediately.

Do I have to see the students I am complaining about?
No, not necessarily.

Is there a limit to how long I have to make a referral?
Within 10 days from the actual date of the incident.

What does it mean to have a block on my room assignment for a judicial referral?
It means you must pass by Judicial Affairs to know the reason and request for the hold to be removed.

How can this block be revoked?
The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is responsible for removal of the hold.

On what disciplinary grounds can I be dismissed?
You may be dismissed if you are responsible for physically injuring a student, violating the IT policy, distributing pornographic material, consumption and storage of alcohol/drugs in the residential halls, or leaking sensitive material harming the reputation of the university.

Will my parents find out?
The university tries its best to negotiate with the student and correct his/her behavior but if it is a serious issue where the parents need to be notified, the university will inform them. Your involvement in violating the university's drug or alcohol policies or in an act of serious misbehavior risking the health or safety of another student or a repeated violation of the Student Code of Conduct will force us to inform your parents.

What is parental notification?
Parental notification is a letter addressed to the parents informing them of their ward's involvement in the case of a serious violation.
