Gulf educators attend education textbook Fair
Scores of students, faculty, and guests attended the opening of the Fourth Annual Higher Educational Textbook Fair held March 16 in the Rotunda of the Main Building.
Twenty academic booksellers, publishers, and educational software designers were represented at the fair, which was inaugurated by AUS Chancellor Winfred Thompson. The main aim of the two-day event was to link publishers and sellers of university-level textbooks, educational materials, and software with professors and program coordinators who make purchasing decisions for their classes. AUS students could also see – and in some cases purchase on-site – their products.
This fourth installment of the annual event continued to show growth in the number of vendors and publishers represented. This year's participating vendors and companies included All Prints, Arab Gulf Education Blackwell Publishing, Edinburgh University Press, IPS, Hodder Arnold, MacMillan Education, Magrudy Enterprises, LLC, McGraw-Hill Education, Pearson Education and Thompson Learning, among others.
Books authored by AUS professors are also highlighted at a separate table. Dr. Robert Cook, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, praised the efforts of that school's Library and Teaching Enhancement committees to organize the annual event, and noted that AUS had invited chancellors, deans and professors from all major UAE universities and colleges to attend this event.
“The Textbook Fair has become an eagerly anticipated forum for all Gulf educators,” he said, “giving all faculty in the UAE the opportunity to see what is new in the education market.”
