Sharjah Crown Prince opens AUS Global Day Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the American University of Sharjah, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Seventh Annual Global Day festival on April 6. The two-day prestigious event was open to the general public. As the biggest event of the year on the AUS calendar, Global Day is a campus-wide affair in which virtually all members of the university community participate, from students and parents to staff and faculty. This year's festival was even more colorful and exciting than those of previous years with numerous government officials, foreign dignitaries, media representatives and members of the public attending this major event. The theme for this year's Global Day was “Peace Throughout the World,” which reflected the harmony and peace prevalent in the multicultural environment of AUS. There were four main attractions at this year's event: World Bazaar, Children's Corner, Food Fair and Cultural Performances. Thirty clubs and organizations representing some of the many nationalities present on campus displayed samples of their cultures and traditions during this event. There were opens AUS Global Day traditional songs played by cultural bands and other displays that portrayed each country's rich heritage. The AUS Community Services House hosted six organizations, each of which presented different awareness programs in order to educate and raise awareness among AUS students and the public. The organizations were: • Environment and Protected Areas Authority There was also a stall set up by Community Services to educate students on some of the issues that relate to the environment, such as recycling and limiting plastic bags usage. Cultural exhibits, skits, dances and tableaux provided plenty of entertainment and leisure to visitors over the two days of the festival. The food corner included restaurants that served traditional cuisines from various countries. The Children's Corner included games, face painting, puppets and live entertainment for the children. The event was hosted by the AUS Office of Student Affairs together with the student clubs and organizations on campus.
