Welcome to the Home Page of the AUS 2004 Self-Study for Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
After being accepted as a candidate for accreditation by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association in June 2002, the American University of Sharjah is undergoing an institutional self-study as a requirement to move to full accreditation. The completion and submission of the self-study report will be followed by the visit of an evaluation team.
The AUS Steering Committee and task forces for the Self-Study comprises of over 60 individuals including faculty, students, administrators and staff. Seeking its first accreditation with the Middle States Association, the comprehensive model was selected for the self-study. The Characteristics of Excellence in Higher Education served as the framework for the study, structuring the analysis of the institution in each of the fourteen standards areas. These areas are:
Standard 1: Mission , Goals and Objectives
Standard 2: Planning, Resource Allocation, and Institutional Renewal
Standard 3: Institutional Resources
Standard 4: Leadership and Governance
Standard 5: Administration
Standard 6: Integrity
Standard 7: Institutional assessment
Standard 8: Student Admissions
Standard 9: Student Support Services
Standard 10: Faculty
Standard 11: Educational Offerings
Standard 12: General Education
Standard 13: Related Educational Activities
Standard 14: Assessment of Student Learning
Due to the relatively small size of AUS, several of the standards were grouped together and a structure of eight study committees, in addition to the steering committee, was defined. These committees and their focus standards are as follows:
