Bloomsbury Series: Teaching and Learning English Literacy and Academic Language Skills

CAS  >  Departments  >  English  >  Research  >  Research Thematic Areas  >  Language and Literature Education  >  Bloomsbury Series: Teaching and Learning English Literacy and Academic Language Skills

The new Series, published by Bloomsbury, will provide tailor-made text-books for English general education courses offered through an American-style type of education.

The textbooks published by the new Series, will be crafted to better teach, support, and assess skills related to critical reading, comprehension, textual analysis, critical thinking, employability, public speaking and writing research projects in English. The new textbooks will offer a suitable content-frame to teach these skills more effectively by emphasizing information literacy, critical thinking and reflection, diverse viewpoints, and core communication and knowledge skills which are central to the liberal arts.

The first text-book of the Series, entitled Writing the Research Paper:  Multi-Cultural Perspectives for Writing in English as a Second Language, will be co-authored by two faculty members of the Department of English at AUS: Assistant Prof. Philip McCarthy and Prof. Khawlah Ahmed.

Prof. Alessandro Benati, Head of the Department of English, and Prof. Ahmad Al-Issa, Professor of English and Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), are co-editors of the new Bloomsbury Series called Teaching and Learning English Literacy and Academic Language Skills which will be launched in January 2020.
