The Department of Mass Communication (MCM) offers a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication (BAMC) and a Minor in Mass Communication (MMC). The BAMC program combines both theoretical knowledge and professional practices in the different media fields. Since its inception in 2012, the MCM program has been systematically accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the UAE Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division. Efforts are underway to secure accreditation from international bodies such as the US-based Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).
As the only professional program in CAS, MCM seeks to prepare young communicators for the challenges of a dynamic and fast-changing media market by providing the latest and most relevant knowledge and skills pertaining to media industry practices. The MCM program harnesses innovative pedagogical methods and state-of-the-art digital technologies to engage students in media assignments relevant to evolving market trends in mass communications. The 250 students currently enrolled in MCM draw on CAS-provided interactive learning spaces (ILSs), a modern audiovisual studio facility and two continuously upgraded Macintosh labs to practice their creative and professional communications skills. Their teaching and mentoring is supported by highly qualified faculty who hail from diverse cultural backgrounds; hold graduate degrees from excellent universities; and have track-records of industry experience in the variant fields of mass communications.
