Adjunct Faculty Position in the Department of English (Fall 2017)

The Department of English at American University of Sharjah (AUS) seeks applicants for an adjunct faculty position to teach Advanced Academic Research Writing, Writing for Engineers, and/or Business Writing.

Candidates holding a completed PhD in English Language or Literature, or a related area, and who have experience teaching courses in academic writing and/or English for specific purposes are encouraged to apply. Applicants should already possess a UAE residence visa. Assistant or Associate Professor in Linguistics / Applied Linguistics

American University of Sharjah, an internationally ranked and accredited American-style university of more than 6,000 students in the United Arab Emirates, seeks full-time faculty members in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics to teach courses in the undergraduate Language program, General Education, Academic Writing, and ESP, as well as in the MATESOL program, in the Department of English. Candidates should hold a completed PhD in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics.  Applicants with specialization in such areas as Sociolinguistics, TESOL, Cognitive Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition and Forensic Linguistics are especially welcome.

Successful candidates will have a strong record of excellence in teaching, ongoing scholarly publication, and a demonstrated commitment to productive institutional service. As a university formed on American models, AUS will give priority to candidates who have substantial experience in American models of higher education.

Assistant or Associate Professor in 19th-Century English Literatures

Assistant/Associate Professor in Media Studies

The Department of Mass Communication (MCM) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor with a background in media studies beginning Fall 2018-19. Candidates must have a PhD in Media Studies or Mass Communication with teaching experience and a proven record of scholarly publications. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in teaching a variety of theoretical and other core courses in media studies/mass communication at the university level in a liberal arts environment.

The Mass Communication Program at AUS is one of the most vibrant and successful programs of its kind in the region. The program offers a wide range of mass communication and media studies courses as both major requirements and major electives and in fulfillment of the General Mass Communication Area of the program.

AUS is located in the Emirate of Sharjah, adjacent to Dubai, UAE. Faculty Position in the Department of Writing Studies

The Department of Writing Studies seeks full-time faculty members to teach academic writing courses at American University of Sharjah. Candidates should have a master's or doctoral degree in English and a background in academic writing.

In addition, candidates should have a minimum of three years' experience teaching composition or academic writing in North American-style higher education. Furthermore, candidates should have demonstrated commitment to excellence in developing academic literacy.

Faculty Position in Philosophy

The Department of International Studies at American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates seeks to hire a professor of philosophy (rank open) for a three-year renewable position to begin Fall 2018. As a university formed on the American model and with English as the language of instruction, only candidates who speak and publish in fluent English will be considered and preference will be given to candidates with experience of the American model of higher education. Area of specialization is open, but we are looking for someone with competence teaching at least two of the following areas: epistomology, Greek philosophy, Islamic philosophy, political philosophy, or philosophy of science. Successful candidates will have a PhD in philosophy, a record of excellent teaching, peer-reviewed publications, and a wish to contribute actively to the interdisciplinary atmosphere in the Department of International Studies.
