Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture Series (December 2011)
The Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture Series, in collaboration with the College of Engineering and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, is pleased to host Mr. Riad Kamal, the Founder, Executive Chairman of Arabtec Construction and CEO of Arabtec Holding, who will speak to AUS community on a lecture entitled "Facing Challenges in Hard Times."
Mr. Kamal began his Civil Engineering and Construction career in London in 1966, following a year of design work, he went on to work on construction projects in Jordan, The U.K. and Spain for Tarmac and Sir Robert McAlpine. In 1974 Mr. Kamal moved to Dubai and started his own construction company which he took public thirty years later to become the first private company to become public in the UAE. Today Arabtec Construction is one of the five largest contractors in the MENA region and specializes in building and civil engineering works and its name has become a household name in the construction industry in the Gulf States. It has over 70,000 employees on its payroll and has been involved in world class developments such as Burj Dubai and Burj Al Arab in Dubai, The Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, and the Okhta Centre Tower in St. Petersburg. Mr. Kamal graduated as a Civil Engineer from the Imperial College of London University and holds a Master's degree from the same college in Structural Engineering.
