Abstract:

Geometry, topology and physics have a long history of interaction. Famous examples include Riemannian geometry in general relativity, and the theory of fiber bundles in quantum field theory. More recently, the impact has been going the other way, with physics motivating new directions of research in geometry and topology. I will survey key ideas and explain sample results, keeping technicalities at a minimum.
