Cultural Representations: Taus Makhacheva in-conversation with curator Sara Raza
Taus Makhacheva is a video and performance artist from the Republic of Dagestan and her practice explores the post-Soviet complexities that have affected the North Caucasus' region following the collapse of the former USSR as a means of unravelling hidden social codes. Makhacheva is a post-graduate at Royal College of Art, London currently pursuing MA in Fine Arts and was recently shortlisted for the prestigious Kandinsky Prize in Moscow and has exhibited at the 4th Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art, Rewriting Worlds, Artplay Moscow, Russia, "Affirmative Action (mimesis)," curated by Marco Scotini, Impronte Contemporary Art, Milan, Italy and "Practice for everyday life," Calvert 22, London, UK (all 2011).
She lives and works between Dagestan, London and Moscow and is a featured artist in the exhibition Migrasophia (migration + philosophy) at the Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah.
She will be interviewed by Sara Raza, independent curator and editor of ArtAsiaPacific magazine (West and Central Asia) and Ibraaz and curator of the exhibition Migrasophia at Maraya Art Centre.
