The office of Public affairs and Department of English present (as part of a series of talks by the Government Social Services Department -Sharjah) a lecture in arabic by Dr. Adbelaziz Mohamed Al Hammadi, Head of Family Cases Division at Dubai Courts.
Dr. Hammadi will identify and discuss the three important aspects related to Emirati women's rights: the religious, the social and the legal. He will look at the development of women's rights before and after Islam, especially in the early period. He will then review the status quo in the light of the Beijing Platform for Action, 1995 and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly. Finally, Dr. Hammadi will examine the items related to women in the Personal Status Code adopted since 2005 in the United Arab Emirates.
