Course Description (AUS Catalog):
Introduces the fundamentals and principles of observational painting. Explores various representational strategies, methods, materials and techniques with exercises and assignments designed to develop skills needed to communicate visual information in a painterly context.
Course Objectives:
Through the various components of this course, students upon completion of the course, students will be able to: Demonstrate a basic knowledge of materials, methods, processes and techniques of oil painting Structure form and content into visual language Describe artistic intent within a context of technique, history and culture Demonstrate an understanding of the active role aesthetic inquiry plays in the development of creative image making Differentiate between conventional and contemporary painting practices.
