Make / Do: Recent work of area.architecture
You are cordially invited to attend the lecture entitled "Make / Do" by Anca Trandafirescu and Glenn Wilcox.
About the lecture
To make do is to manage to get along with whatever means are available. For us, this is never a capitulation, but always an opportunity to make and do more with our existing means. This lecture presents the development of several recent research projects designed and built by our practice, area. We highlight our engagement with material practice through computation and digital fabrication - the way we make - as it is combines with our interest in public space and open dialogue - the things we aspire for our work to do.
About the speakers
area is an architectural design practice based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Founded by architects and educators Glenn Wilcox and Anca Trandafirescu in 1992, area explores design issues through speculative activities, competitions, commissioned projects and design-build work around their combined interest of public access and digital fabrication. A considerable portion of the practice is devoted to the production of small-sized inhabitable architectural objects. These works range from temporary installation projects in public to experimental pieces in galleries, and are fully designed, fabricated, assembled and installed by area. This prototypical work explores the design, material and manufacturing regimes currently influencing the ideation and production of architecture.
