Talk by US Ambassador Michael H. Corbin (February 2014)
Michael H. Corbin, Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Arab Emirates, will speak to AUS students and faculty about entrepreneurship.
Michael H. Corbin was nominated as the US Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates by President Barack Obama on May 5, 2011. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. Prior to this assignment, he was Minister-Counselor for Political-Military Affairs at the US Embassy in Baghdad from 2008 to 2009 and Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Damascus, Syria from 2006 to 2008.
Ambassador Corbin served as Minister Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs at the US Embassy in Cairo from 2003 to 2006. He was Deputy Director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs from 2001 to 2003. Ambassador Corbin served as Director of the Counter-Narcotics Section at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela from 1997 to 2001 and Political-Military Affairs Officer at the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt from 1994 to 1997. His first overseas post was at the US Embassy in Tunis, Tunisia from 1985-1987. He served in Kuwait from 1987 to 1989. Ambassador Corbin joined the Foreign Service in 1985.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ambassador Corbin served in the Peace Corps from 1982 to 1984 in Mauritania. He received a bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College.
