Threshold Concepts for Information Literacy: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Participants in this professional development workshop will create lesson plans and assessments for information literacy teaching that reflect the new Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education being put forward by the ACRL. Revisions to the framework emphasize threshold concepts and this workshop will familiarize participants with threshold concepts as a general learning theory, along with their development and application in the subject discipline of information literacy. Participants will have the opportunity to consider strengths, weaknesses and implications of the new framework and its relevance and utility to their own teaching contexts. Learning will take place through discussion and peer exchange, facilitated group work, and presentations. Opportunities for professional networking and lunch on day two are provided.
