What is Differential Cohomology and Why Should You Care?
The AUS Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the College of Arts and Sciences invites you to a seminar to be conducted by Dr. Daniel Gradyfrom New York University, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Abstract: It has been known for some time that one can construct certain topological invariants of a manifold using the geometry of the manifold. Differential cohomology is a theory which attaches certain algebraic objects to differentiable manifolds in a way which illuminates this relationship between topological invariants and geometric data. This talk seeks to provide the basic theory of differential cohomology and give numerous examples of how these algebraic objects appear, both in physics and other areas of mathematics.
