72 clubs participate in Spring 2015 AUS Club Fair

The multicultural student life of American University of Sharjah (AUS) is being showcased at the AUS Spring 2015 Club Fair, held today, February 23, and tomorrow, February 24, 2015 at the Student Center. The fair introduces students to the many cultural and interest-oriented clubs on campus and emphasizes the extracurricular opportunities offered by the university.

The two-day event, organized by the Office of Student Affairs, was inaugurated by Dr. Björn Kjerfve, AUS Chancellor; along with Kevin Mitchell, Interim Provost; Dr. Cleve McDaniel, Chief Operating Officer; and Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.

This edition of the Club Fair is featuring 34 ethnic clubs, 38 interest-oriented clubs and seven departments from the Office of Student Affairs. Three newly established clubs joining in this semester are the Spanish Cultural Club, Microsoft Student Club and the Project Management Club.

"The Club Fair celebrates the university's diverse and culturally dynamic community. It is inspiring to see our students put forth such a vibrant display of their cultures and interests," said Chancellor Kjerfve.

"Club Fair is one of the most awaited student events on campus. It is a platform wherein student interaction is promoted and it serves as a practice field for our students to hone practical skills in culture, arts, music, finance, business, literature and many other areas. It is our aim to engage more students in extracurricular activities to complement their overall learning experience at AUS," said Dr. Shehhi.

Club Fair is especially helpful for first-year students as it familiarizes them with student-led organizations and allows them to enroll in clubs that suit their interests.

"It is an interesting event that is especially beneficial for freshmen students, since they get to find people with common interests," said Faiza Makki, a chemical engineering freshman at AUS. "Being in a club is a good learning experience."

The Club Fair will continue until tomorrow, February 24, 2015.
