AUS students join in the cross-culture collaboration project

Sixty three American University of Sharjah (AUS) students who are currently enrolled in International Business (MGT 305) and Cross-Cultural Management (MGT 306) courses in the School of Business and Management (SBM) have participated in an international collaboration project called X-Culture International Business Student Collaboration Project this semester.

Over 1600 students divided into 225 student teams from 44 universities from 6 continents are working together in the project.

Led by Dr. Fang Zhao, Associate Professor of Management at SBM, who teaches the two courses, AUS students are enjoying the first of its kind real-world business experience of working with culturally diverse teams to accomplish a challenging international project.

The X-Culture Project provides students with a rare opportunity of dealing with cross-cultural challenges faced in an international business situation.  It requires students to develop a business proposal for a large, industry-leading multinational company. Students are using social networking sites and other online tools to connect and collaborate with their international team members.

"Working with people all over the world to complete a specific task is challenging but rewarding", said one of the AUS students. Some of the challenges are different languages, different time zones, different personalities and different ways of thinking. Working through the challenges proves to be one of the most valuable learning experiences at AUS.
