Drums of the World performs at AUS
Drums of the World, a uniquely dynamic music collective, performed at American University of Sharjah (AUS) on May 11, 2014. Performers from England, India, Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia and the Philippines offered sounds that delved into powerful rhythms of Morocco, India and Africa.
The group used djembes, duns duns, doumbeks, tablas, mouth harps, clay pots, bongos, shekeres and other world percussion instruments to create exciting vibes and to facilitate a "jazz/fusion ensemble." The ensemble consisted of an exciting and innovative musical program that included a blend of strong rhythmic and melodic improvisations and unique convergence of sound from various exotic cultures.
The show concluded with a final performance that encouraged audience members to participate by playing the drums.
The event was organized by the AUS Cultural Events Committee.
