Former AUS faculty gives lecture in Achievement Academy
American University of Sharjah (AUS) welcomed Dr. Mark Algren-the former Director of its Achievement Academy (AA), then called the Intensive English Program-to share his expertise with department members, on Monday, March 8, 2016.
A figure of international significance in the field of English language teaching, Dr. Algren spoke on "Discovering, Building and Engaging in Your Professional Community" and "Tips for Writing TESOL International Convention Proposals."
The goal of the session was to improve and increase the capabilities of the AA staff through access to education and training opportunities in the workplace. Dr. Algren's professional development plan was to further staff members' knowledge in their area of teaching, to develop technical, quantitative and analytical skills of students' performance to modify academic programs and teaching techniques, to acquire leadership skills and to improve their fundamental teaching skills.
Dr. Mark Algren, who has numerous distinguished career accomplishments including serving as President of TESOL International in 2009-2010, currently leads the University of Missouri Center for English Language Learning. He is also a key member of the US Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. During his visit, Dr. Algren met with former colleagues and caught up with the developments that have taken place in the 10 years since his departure.
