Leopard ladies retain swimming title
The AUS women's swimming team retained its title at the Sixth AUS Women's Intercollegiate Swimming Competition held recently, with a total of 75 points, while University of Sharjah and United Arab Emirates University came in second and third with 60 points and 36 points, respectively. Six universities participated in the competition.
Danya Khafaga won first place in the 50 meter butterfly, while Beesan Hussein came in second. In the 50 meter backstroke, Nour Attia came in second. Rawan Salah came in second in the 50 meter breaststroke. Razan Khamis came in second in the 50 meter freestyle while Cyndi Faber came in third and also second in the 200 meter individual medley. In the 4x50 m medley relay, AUS swimmers kept University of Sharjah well behind and earned first place. University of Sharjah claimed second place while United Arab Emirates University secured third place.
Not only did the AUS Leopards gain one more win for the season, but new universities took up the challenge to participate in this amazing event. Joining long-time participants Ajman University of Science and Technology and University of Sharjah this year were American University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates University and the University of Wollongong in Dubai.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students, congratulated the AUS swimmers for winning the championship once again. She also praised the team for its consistent performances and for maintaining such a high standard, both in and out of the pool. "I am very proud of our women's swimming team and all they have accomplished this semester not only in the pool, but also in the classroom and for maintaining a successful balance between academics and athletics," said Dr. Shehhi.
he event concluded with Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of the Student Athletics and Recreation Department, congratulating the winners for their remarkable performance and handing out prizes to the winners.
