Students discover their leadership personality
As part of the Student Training and Workshop Series, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Office of Student Affairs' Student Leadership Program (SLP) recently conducted DISC analysis training for its student leaders. DISC is a behavioral model that examines the behavior of individuals in their environment or within a specific situation. Designed to help prepare students for successful leadership, the workshop focused on communication skills, resolving and preventing conflicts, understanding the differences of others and gaining credibility to positively influence others.
"Understanding the personalities and the behaviors of other people has always been a fundamental requirement for successful leaders. Participating in the DISC analysis workshop did not only provide us with full understanding of our personalities, but it also granted us helpful tools to predict people's actions and behaviors. It also gave us clues on how to approach different types of personalities in order to reach our goals and minimize the conflicts in real world situations. By implementing what we learned, we will be able to be more productive and efficient, which will smooth our way to success," said electrical engineering student Moatasem El-Gamal.
"The DISC analysis workshop was a very eye-opening experience. Not only did it help me in knowing what exactly characterizes my personality, but I learned how to analyze others' personalities and deal with them accordingly. I believe that this will help me avoid a lot of conflicts in the future. It was a very successful workshop, and we were all surprised at how the DISC analysis of our personalities was a close description of ourselves if not spot on. I advise all students to try to take this test online and read more about this topic because it would certainly help us understand how others expect us to interact with them," said Sherok Metwaly, a junior in electrical engineering.
"We value the importance of personality development for all students. SLP conducts the DISC analysis workshop frequently and it has proven to be very popular among students. It is a unique workshop that helps individuals better understand their own personality in order to improve dealing with others. By the end of the workshop, students conclude that although personalities are different they are predictably different," said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
