The Material Science and Engineering Research Institute (MSERI) offers a place for professionals within the discipline of materials science and engineering to pursue further academic achievement, as well as acting as a regional leader for conducting and disseminating research in the field.

The focus of the institute’s research is in areas that will address the current and future needs of communities in the GCC and around the globe, creating more durable and sustainable materials and structures, without compromising quality. The institute fosters research that addresses key environmental challenges, finding solutions that minimize reliance on non-renewable energy and which support environmental sustainability. To achieve this goal, MSERI works in an interdisciplinary fashion, bringing together internationally acclaimed researchers and academics from across the university’s colleges.

Our vision is to be a leader in the Gulf Region and Middle East in the areas of advanced sustainable materials and structures, through innovative research and education. The MSERI will be internationally recognized by industry leaders and peers at academic institutions for excellence in research and education, and be known as a destination to pursue education and research in materials science.

Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary research and education in advanced sustainable materials and structures in a manner that addresses current and future needs of society. We will achieve these by facilitating cross-disciplinary activities between American University of Sharjah’s College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, and College of Architecture, Art and Design.

The MSERI aims to advance the science and engineering of renewable power technologies, and provide essential knowledge for the integration and optimization of sustainable energy systems to change how our society thinks about the use of natural resources and supports environmental protection.

Our research will promote the development of advanced materials for construction, design and technology with a focus on renewable and sustainable development in order advance the UAE National Agenda. We will also foster new developments of structures used in buildings; for transportation; for oil and gas exploration, recovery and conservation; and for power generation and distribution. Furthermore, MSERI research will support innovation in analytical and computational modeling facilities that will guide and accelerate the development of these new materials.
