Profile

Dr. Hemad Yasaei
Dr. Hemad Yasaei is a specialist molecular geneticist heading the Genomics Lab at Dubai Genetics Center, Department of Pathology and Genetics, Dubai Health Authority (DHA). His objective at Dubai Genetics Center is to offer the latest NGS-based genetic diagnosis to all patients of DHA and Dubai. He is also a subject-matter specialist and consultant to Dubai Genomics, a 10X initiative by DHA. He is steering the Dubai Genome Program, which aims to integrate genomic medicine into routine clinical care within 10 years. He is also a member of the scientific and medical committee of the expanded premarital screening pilot program organized by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, and co-wrote the technical document for program in 2017.
Prior to joining DHA, Dr. Yasaei was a senior research associate at the University of Bristol School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (UK). His research interest was to elucidate the mechanism behind embryonic re-programing and its association with diseases, such as cancer. He briefly studied the functional role of Wilms Tumour protein (WT1) by employing techniques such as 3D culture and inducible gene editing tools as well as computational biology. Dr. Yasaei completed his doctoral training at Brunel University London (UK) School of Life Sciences in the field of molecular and cellular biology followed by two post-doctoral training fellowships funded by NC3Rs-MRC.
His lifelong research interest is to understand mechanism(s) behind cellular immortality in cancer. He has authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed journals and has given talks at national and international conferences.
