Dr. Kourosh Salehi-Ashtiani
Professor Kourosh Salehi-Ashtiani received his PhD from Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois, USA) under the mentorship of Professor Erwin Goldberg, in Cell and Molecular Biology. He joined the group of Professor Jack Szostak, a Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, at Harvard Medical School where he used directed evolution to study catalytic RNAs. Following the completion of his postdoctoral work in 2005, he moved to the Center for Cancer Systems Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School) as a Group Leader, where he developed a number of high throughput platforms to explore the coding and metabolic potential of eukaryotic genomes.
Dr. Salehi-Ashtiani joined New York University Abu Dhabi in 2011 as an Associate Professor of Biology and served as the Managing Director of Center for Genomics and Systems Biology at NYU Abu Dhabi from 2012 to 2017. His group at NYU Abu Dhabi explores fundamental and applied questions on algae, through systems and synthetic biology, as well as genomics. Professor Salehi-Ashtiani has received multiple US federal research grants in the past.
