Students in the AUS School of Business Administration are required to complete BUS 397 Business Internship (or BUS 497 Business Practicum) to fulfill their graduation requirements depending on their catalog. Participation in an internship allows students to combine on-the-job career learning experience with related academic coursework to enhance their total educational experience. Refer to the Internship Handbook for further details

Benefits of Internships

Internships offer students opportunities to:

  • apply, evaluate and put in perspective acquired theoretical knowledge
  • improve written and interpersonal communication skills
  • acquire work experience and develop networks, which can be used in pursuit of a career
  • develop confidence
  • build professionalism
  • match career choices with personal styles and abilities

Eligibility 

To be eligible for Internship, a student must:

  • complete at least 75 credit hours (excluding Bridge Program and 00X course credits)
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.0

Internship Guidelines

  • Internships may be completed in any academic semester including Summer. During Fall and Spring semesters, BUS 397 can be taken with no more than 2 courses. Summer internships need to be completed without any extra courses.
  • BUS 397 Internships must consist of a minimum of six weeks - 240 hours.
  • Students may not work directly with a parent or a relative at an internship site.
  • Students must apply for an internship in the semester prior to commencing it.
  • Business Practicum (BUS 497) is a special, 3 credit, 3-month internship that can be registered in any academic semester including Summer. During Fall and Spring semesters, BUS 497 can be taken with no more than 1 course. Students need to complete a minimum of 480 hours across 12 weeks. As a 3 credit course, registering for BUS 497 means students must pay for the course as any other regular 3 credit course (check with Student Accounts for details). Coursework for BUS 497 can be found in the course syllabus which can be provided upon request.
