Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni

Vice Provost for Graduate Studies

Dr. Mohamed El-Tarhuni joined American University of Sharjah in 2000 and currently serves as the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies, leading the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS). The OGS coordinates and oversees the academic operations of the university's graduate programs.

From 2014 to 2017, Dr. El-Tarhuni served as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs at the College of Engineering. From 2006 to 2014, he was the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering. From 2001 to 2006, Dr. El-Tarhuni was the Director of the Cisco Regional Networking Academy at AUS. He also served as Industry Relations Officer for the IEEE UAE Section from 2002 to 2006.

Dr. El-Tarhuni holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of wireless communications, digital communications, and signals and systems. His research interests include mobile radio systems, cognitive radio, 5G, and physical layer issues. He is a senior member of the IEEE.

Dr. El-Tarhuni holds two US patents and has published over 90 articles related to wireless and digital communications. He has served on the organization committees of many international conferences including ICC, Globecom, PIMRC, WCNC, VTC, ICCSPA, ISSPA, and ICMSAO. He has also served as a guest editor for several special issues of international journals as well as being a panelist and keynote speaker at numerous conferences.

Dr. El-Tarhuni received his PhD in electrical engineering from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada in 1997. He then worked as a member of the technical staff at Nortel Networks, Ottawa, Canada from 1997 to 2000. From 1986 until 1993, he worked with the General Electricity Company of Libya, Benghazi, Libya as a telecommunications engineer and as a manager of the electronics department.
