About the Research Office

The mission of the Office of Research is fourfolds:

  • To support and promote research, scholarship and creative activity of AUS faculty, staff and students
  • To establish and maintain policies for and advance research integrity and ethical conduct of research
  • To ensure university compliance with sponsored programs regulations
  • To promote technology transfer

The Office of Research also serves as AUS’s office of sponsored programs, and as such, provides pre-award services comparable to those provided at American universities based in the US. Its main responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and interacting with external sponsors and donors to market and promote AUS research and other university activities
  • Establishing, maintaining and monitoring AUS policies and procedures required for responsible conduct of research and other sponsored activities. This includes human subjects’ protection, research integrity, conflict of interest and grants management.
  • Ensuring compliance to sponsor regulations
  • Managing internal AUS grants funds that: (1) “seed” the development of AUS research programs, (2) stimulate external support, (3) assist scholars in fields where external sponsor interest is currently limited, (4) strengthen research infrastructure and (5) complement research programs elsewhere in the university
  • Sponsoring annual faculty/student seminar series in sponsored programs development and management (for example, research design, research ethics, proposal writing, budget development and management, project management, project marketing techniques)
  • Sponsoring activities and publications that promote and reward AUS research endeavors.
  • Assisting with development and processing of proposals for sponsored projects, which includes identification of funding sources, liaison with sponsors and submission to funding agencies

The office also manages faculty consulting, memoranda of understanding with other institutions, sponsorship for students' projects, and technology transfer agreements.
