Design Management

The design management major offers students the opportunity to study design in the wider context of entrepreneurship and management of the creative process. Students take design classes at the School of Architecture and Design, complemented by business classes at the School of Business and Management. Our design management degree is unique in the region and graduates are in demand by a wide range of organizations that require professionals with strong management skills and an understanding and appreciation of the creative process. Design management graduates are working as design directors for public and private corporations, design and advertising agency account executives, and are actively recruited by galleries, events organizations and museums throughout the region.
Graduates from the design management undergraduate program should be equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to contribute to
- work in a client servicing department within advertising agencies
(defining creative briefs, costing, managing, planning a project, collaborating with the creative department)
- work with event managers
(promotion planning and management, liaising with designers for graphic material, project management)
- establishing a new design company
(formulating business plans, developing marketing strategies, establishing teams of personnel for the company)
- work as freelance design managers for individuals, organizations requiring specialist project management
Graduates should also have a working knowledge of the following and may have concentrated in one of the following specialist areas:
- design methodology and applications
- image making
- Web design
- visualizing
Graduates have a portfolio of their work that will demonstrate the particular skills, preferences and knowledge related to the world of design management.
