Faculty members of the Department of Industrial Engineering are contributing to the development and application of the department’s research areas, which include:
SCM research area’s contributions include production planning, supply chain network design, logistics systems and transportation, reverse logistics, warehousing operations and facility systems design, implementation of supply chain initiatives. It will help address issues of interest to the UAE market such as the ports authorities’ challenges, freight transportation management and workforce planning and regulation.
QMR research area focuses on yield and customer satisfaction improvement and covers topics such as six sigma, quality management systems, quality process control, and process optimization. It also focuses on reliability assessment and improvement system reliability modeling, reliability testing, and risk analysis. In addition, it covers maintenance management, condition-based maintenance, reliability-centered maintenance, destructive and non-destructive testing, and lifecycle cost estimation and analysis.
Healthcare Systems Management addresses the application of systems analysis and quantitative methods in managing the cost and quality of various components of the healthcare delivery system. The research topics include but are not limited to: patients appointment system, operating room scheduling, staff scheduling, inventory management, process improvement, capacity management, and quality management.
Projects under this research area are multidisciplinary in nature integrating materials science, manufacturing process, system integration techniques, automation, economic analysis methods, design and other fields. Current research projects include optimizing process parameters for high speed machining operations, investigating effect of incorporating advanced materials (nano-particles and CNTs) in developing sustainable cementitious products, enhancing efficiency and flexibility of manufacturing systems through cloud computing and IOT.
