Sustainability  >  Our Priorities  >  #sustainableYOU

Regardless of the major you choose to pursue, you can become involved in the many sustainability endeavors of AUS. Employers are increasingly looking for graduates who understand sustainability challenges and who have the confidence to become sustainability leaders. Therefore, participating is not just a great way to contribute to causes that really matter, it also gives you essential skills and knowledge to thrive in a future career, whatever the industry.

Here are just a few ways you can join other students at AUS and make a real difference:

  • Apply for sustainability project funding and support

We encourage students of all years and majors to relate their field of study to the pressing issues of climate change, material consumption, diversity and inclusion, and to use the AUS campus as a “living lab.” We support sustainability-related student projects across the university: if you have a great design or idea that can improve the sustainability of campus operations, we can help connect you with the funds, people and support you need to solve sustainable issues on campus and beyond. For information on how to apply for sustainability project funding, click here.

  • Become a student EcoRep

Our EcoReps are enthusiastic students with a desire to promote sustainable change on campus.

EcoReps educate their student peers on issues such as waste reduction, energy conservation, diversity, tolerance and more. Through guest speakers, events and outings, EcoReps deepen their own understanding of their sustainable campus and become better advocates for environmental action. If you are passionate about sustainability and making a difference in your local community, you should consider becoming an EcoRep. For information on the role and responsibility of being an AUS EcoRep, click here.

  • Support AUS sustainability initiatives

The AUS campus is an epicenter for sustainability-focused change. Whether it is wiping out single-use plastic on campus, promoting women in leadership or showcasing how locally grown produce can revive our bodies and our land, there is always an event or campaign in which students can involve themselves. Support can come in the form of volunteering your time and talents, and following and sharing our initiatives on social media. If you would like to sign up as an EcoVolunteer please email [email protected].
