| 3. Composition of the Master’s Thesis Committee
The master’s thesis committee (MTC) at AUS must be made up of at least three members—a thesis supervisor and at least two additional readers or, as they are sometimes called, advisors or reviewers.
Your thesis supervisor (TS) and at least one reader/advisor/reviewer must be full-time faculty members from your graduate program. Consult the specific requirements and recommendations of your specific graduate program for information on the required makeup of the remainder of your committee.
In special cases and with the permission of the TS and MTC, your committee may also include a faculty member from outside your graduate program whose educational and research expertise can potentially make useful and constructive contributions to the work.
Final membership of the MTC must be approved by the graduate program director.
A Thesis Approval Form specifying the thesis title and signed by the student, the MTC members, the graduate program director and dean shall be filed with the department and the Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs.
Subsequent changes in thesis title or membership of the MTC must be submitted to the graduate program director for approval in advance of the completion of the thesis.
See Appendix A2 for a sample of the Thesis Approval Form.
