AUS ASME chapter lands global Student Section Achievement Award for second consecutive year
The student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at American University of Sharjah (AUS) has received the ASME Student Section Achievement Award for Academic Year 2025-2026. This is the second consecutive year the chapter has earned this distinction.
Presented through the ASME Student Section Recognition Program, this global award recognizes exceptional student chapters that meet the benchmarks of the society’s international board. These criteria include maintaining an active membership, developing strong student leadership, and sustaining a year-round program of professional development activities.
“I am proud of this wonderful milestone, and winning it a second time truly showcases the outstanding commitment of our chapter,” said Ali Qayed Ahli, outgoing AUS chapter president. “It also shows that cultivating an active and engaging community is not only educational and sustainable, it is also deeply rewarding,” he added.
Khaled Husain Al Hadhrami, the chapter’s vice president, noted that the win reflects the internal culture of the group.
“Winning this award reflects the strong bond and chemistry within our team. The chapter became like a family to us, and I truly believe the supportive and passionate community we built together made this achievement possible,” he said.
Executive assistant of the chapter, Ashhad Faisal, emphasized the importance of being consistent and rigorous with the agenda.
“From technical workshops to industry site visits, we did our best to provide every member at AUS with the tools and the support they need to excel in their field," he said.
Over the past year, the student section offered its members a diverse range of opportunities for personal and professional growth. Key events included a MathWorks software training workshop, a "Faculty Feud" competition and educational excursions to the Dubai Airshow and STRATA Engineering.
Expanding on the advantages of participation in the chapter, Kasih Khairi, who serves on the student media subcommittee, remarked: "The opportunities for mentorship and hands-on projects through ASME have been invaluable. Our executive committee has been highly engaged and proactive, and these efforts enhance the student experience not just for chapter members, but for all engineering students at AUS."
The ASME AUS student chapter’s members can reach out to a worldwide network of engineering professionals and get pathways to internship and career opportunities, global competitions and access to technical journals and certification programs.
“Through the ASME AUS student chapter, all mechanical engineering students have a vast selection of possibilities. They can stay updated with the latest updates in mechanical engineering news and get in contact with the brightest minds in the field. Our activities, programs and members’ benefits are sure to help any mechanical engineering graduate achieve their professional goals,” added Ali.
