Automatic bomb calorimeter

The petroleum laboratory is equipped for testing the properties of crude oils, as well as other petroleum distillates such as gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil, lubricating oil, etc., and it serves as an integrated part of the Chemical Engineering Educational Program at AUS. As such it is capable of serving students, industry, and academia in the Gulf.

The petroleum Laboratory has the following equipment:

  • Fully automatic Bomb Calorimeter
  • Fully automatic Pensky – Martens Close Cup Flash Point Tester
  • Dynamic and kinematic viscosity
  • Vapor pressure tester
  • Distillation characteristic of petroleum
  • Specific gravity and API gravity
  • Water and sediment content
  • Conradson carbon residue
  • Ash and sulphated ash content
  • Dean and Stark water content
  • Pour point of lubricating oils
  • Oil in water and sand
  • Salt content in oil
