Welcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah
The Chemical Engineering program offers a four-year program of study leading to a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering that prepares graduates to work in all areas of the chemical industry. Chemical engineers combine mathematics and advanced chemistry with engineering principles to design, develop and operate industrial processes for the manufacture of a host of products including baked goods, beverages, medicine, cosmetics, gasoline, heating oil, plastics, synthetic fibers, paint, solvents and chemical intermediates. A chemical engineer's education permits the graduate to work in design and automation, computer simulation, specialty chemicals, industrial gases, food processing, petroleum fractionation, polymers, pollution prevention and remediation, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or pulp and paper industries. The expertise of chemical engineers is also used in fields such as law and medicine.
At AUS, faculty members are committed to helping students develop the intellectual, technological and personal skills that allow them to excel in both academia and chemical engineering careers. AUS chemical engineering graduates should be able to employ their knowledge, analysis and design skills to realize engineering systems and advance the frontiers of science and technology.
