Dr. Jamal El-Din Abdalla

Jamal A. Abdalla earned a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, USA, and did his postdoctoral research at Stanford University, USA. He was an associate professor at Qatar University and the University of Khartoum, and he worked with Bechtel Civil (PMB) in San Francisco. His research interests include earthquake engineering, computational methods and materials. He has numerous publications that are well cited. He has received several research grants and awards including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Best Paper Award. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE) and a member of the ASCE.

Dr. Akmal Abdelfatah

Akmal Abdelfatah earned a PhD in Civil Engineering (Transportation) from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. He worked as a teaching/graduate research assistant at Cairo University, American University in Cairo, and UT-Austin. He has taught several graduate and undergraduate courses in civil engineering, engineering systems management and urban planning. His areas of research and teaching interest areas are Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic operations, transportation planning and operations research. In addition to his academic experience, he has worked as a part-time transportation planning and traffic expert for companies in UAE.

Dr. Farid Abed

Farid Abed earned his PhD in Structures/Mechanics Louisiana State University (LSU), USA. Prior to AUS, he taught in the area of structures at Bradley University and LSU. He has more than five years of experience working as a civil engineer in Baghdad and Dubai. His areas of research and teaching interest are computational solid and structural mechanics, advanced structural analysis, advanced mechanics of materials, nonlinear finite element analysis, theory of elasticity and plasticity, damage mechanics and composite materials.

Dr. Ghassan Abu-Lebdeh

Ghassan Abu-Lebdeh is a past recipient of the Eisenhower Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign. Dr. Abu-Lebdeh's research interests are in control and modeling of interrupted flow and congested traffic systems. Before joining AUS, Dr. Abu-Lebdeh was with Michigan State University and the University of Kentucky. He has over 10 years of industry experience in Illinois and Massachusetts, USA. Dr. Abu-Lebdeh obtained his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Sherif Mohamed Ahmed

Sherif Yehia earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA. He has taught in civil and construction engineering departments at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and Western Michigan University, USA. Dr. Yehia is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Nebraska and Michigan. He is the co-developer of the patented newly conductive concrete application for deicing operations and the patented precast post-tensioned segmental pole system. His research interests include behavior of reinforced and prestressed concrete, composite structures, special concrete, structural health monitoring, nondestructive testing, and infrastructure management systems.

Dr. Tarig Ali

Tarig Ali holds a PhD in Geodetic and Geospatial Engineering from the Ohio State University (OSU), USA. Dr. Ali has taught at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) and the University of Central Florida. Dr. Ali is the recipient of the Esri Award for Best Scientific Paper in Geographic Information Systems, the ETSU Faculty Excellence Award, the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association's Murrough O'Brien Education Award, and OSU's Duane C. Brown Jr. Award. Dr. Ali's research interests include coastal mapping, terrain modeling, wide-area GPS networks, and applications of geographic information systems and remote sensing in environmental and transportation engineering.

Dr. Mohammed AlHamaydeh

Mohammad Al Hamaydeh earned his PhD in structural/earthquake engineering from the University of Southern California, USA. He has taught several structural engineering courses, such as structural steel design, fundamentals of structural dynamics, computer methods in structural analysis and design, as well as analysis and design of tall buildings. His area of research and expertise include nonlinear structural dynamic response analysis and modeling, passive control and supplemental damping devices, computer-aided design and simulation, nonlinear finite element methods as well as soil-structure-interaction. Prior to his academic career, he was an active member of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) as a consultant engineer in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Adil Al-Tamimi

Adil K. Al-Tamimi earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. He has teaching, consultation and research interests in sustainable construction, high- performance concrete in harsh environments, composite structural materials, management of materials, and engineering quality/safety. He has worked closely with the construction industry for over 25 years. He has chaired four international conferences on the application of traditional and high performance materials in harsh environment. He was track chair for the international conference on sustainable systems and the environment, organized by AUS and Cambridge University. Currently, he is engaged in funded projects with private industries/the UAE government. He has published over 70 papers and one book.

Dr. Serter Atabay

Serter Atabay earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, with an emphasis in hydraulic engineering. He has more than seven years of professional experience with the UK's leading specialists in flood risk and environmental management. He has taught a variety of courses for undergraduate students, including fluid mechanics, water resources engineering, coastal engineering and statics. His general area of specialization is open channel hydraulics, and his research interests span over a few sub-areas of research including compound channel flow mechanism and boundary shear stress distributions, and hydraulic structures such us bridges and culverts.

Dr. Mousa Attom

Mousa Attom earned his PhD from Kansas State University, USA, in the geotechnical area. Dr. Mousa worked for two years in the industry as a soil laboratory manager and a consultant engineer in Southern California. Dr. Attom has also taught at the Jordan University of Science and Technology. Dr. Attom's research interests include expansive soil, soil stabilization, soil testing and soil behavior.

Dr. Salwa Beheiry

Magdi El-Emam earned a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Queen's University, Canada. He has taught in civil engineering departments for more than seven years at institutions such as Zagazig University. His areas of research and teaching interest are soil dynamics and earthquake engineering, the behavior of geosynthetics and its applications in geotechnical engineering, numerical and experimental modeling of retaining walls and slopes, behaviors and testing methods of saturated and unsaturated soils, foundation design and principles of soil mechanics. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a research associate at Royal Military College of Canada.

Sameh Monir El-Sayegh earned a PhD in Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering and Project Management) from Texas A&M University, USA. Prior to his academic career, he worked in the construction industry in Greece and Yemen with CCIC and in the US with the Morganti Group. His areas of research and teaching interest are construction and project management, project control and construction contracting. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.

Kutsi Erduran earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, with an emphasis in hydraulic engineering. He has taught a variety of courses including hydraulics, fluid mechanics, water resources engineering, computer programming, computational fluid dynamics and design of hydraulic structures for undergraduate and postgraduate students in civil engineering departments for more than nine years. His areas of research are development and use of numerical models and numerical solution techniques for fluid flow problems.

Dr. Kazi Fattah

Kazi Parvez Fattah earned a PhD in Civil Engineering (Environment) from the University of British Columbia, Canada. Before joining AUS, Dr. Fattah worked as an environmental engineering consultant in Canada and as a faculty member at the University of Asia Pacific in Bangladesh. His research interests are in the design, operation, optimization and environmental management of water and wastewater treatment systems; removal and recovery of nutrients (phosphorus and nitrogen) from wastewater; the treatment of desalination reject water; and water reuse and application of membrane in water treatment. He is actively involved with the Water Environment Research Foundation, an international research body, and a reviewer for various journals and conferences.

Dr. Khaled Galal

Khaled Galal is an associate professor at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he won the Teaching Excellence Award. He holds a PhD from McMaster University, Canada. His research strength and activities span a wide spectrum of sustainable buildings and infrastructure, covering structural engineering, reinforced concrete and masonry structures, earthquake engineering, highway and railway bridge infrastructure, rehabilitation of structures, and applications of new composite materials in structures. He is an active member of several international societies and institutes in the areas of concrete and masonry structures, earthquake engineering, bridge infrastructure and rehabilitation of structures.

Md. Maruf Mortula earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. He has taught environmental engineering courses in civil engineering and environmental systems engineering departments for the last four years at AUS and the University of Regina, Canada. His areas of research and teaching interest are water and wastewater treatment, waste residual management within water treatment plants, water infrastructure management, and water quality management in coastal areas and computational methods in environmental engineering applications. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a visiting researcher for the National Research Council of Canada.

Rami A. Hawileh has worked in both industry and academia. He was a structural analyst at AREVA NP INC., an AREVA and Siemens Company, Lynchburg, Virginia, USA, and a structural engineer at the Austin Company, Schaumberg, Illinois, USA. He was lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Dr. Hawileh earned a PhD in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structures at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

Dr. Zahid Khan

Zahid Khan earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Dr. Khan has worked as a foundations engineer with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation in Canada. He provided professional engineering services for more than 15 years on projects in Canada and abroad. He is a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario, where he also managed and directed an engineering firm that provides geotechnical engineering. His research interests involve geotechnical earthquake engineering, static and dynamic foundation analysis, non-destructive and non-invasive methods, and seismic site response and liquefaction analysis.
