The Bachelor of Science in Digital Construction Engineering and Management (BSDCEM) is an innovative and interdisciplinary degree that combines the problem-solving and design aspects of civil engineering with construction management courses. This program equips students with the knowledge of digital technology and smart systems applications in the new construction industry.
Digital construction harnesses digital technologies to construct buildings and infrastructure more efficiently and with higher quality. The proven success of this innovative approach presents numerous opportunities that span the entire construction life cycle.
Using building information modelling (BIM) and a connected data environment, digital construction engineering and management enables both broad and detailed views of all phases of a construction project, helping mitigate problems that can slow down a project. Digitalization offers profound improvements in pre-construction by using cloud-based bid management tools. In addition, mobile applications integrated with web-based platforms can be used to precisely monitor asset installation in real time and remotely inspect the work by reviewing project alerts and photos from the field, without the need to be physically present on site. Reduced time in the field, decreased costs, real-time reporting, automated material reconciliation–all of these benefits have a direct impact on revenue realization.
Our BSDCEM program offers a distinctive opportunity to acquire a cutting-edge combination of technology-based engineering tools and digital skills in the field of construction engineering with a management component.
In a fast-moving world, this degree program takes an entirely new and practical approach. The digital aspect of the program includes concepts of information technology, data analytics and artificial intelligence that are relevant to the construction sector. In addition, students in the program will be prepared to take on future management roles by developing essential skills related to leadership, teamwork, project administration and resource management—both onsite and in the virtual world.
Consistent with the demands of international and national accreditation requirements and targeting specific industry needs of the region, this undergraduate degree takes about four years to complete.
With countries throughout the region eager to develop and enhance their infrastructure and the construction industry playing a significant role in that development, our region has seen an increased demand for graduates with the skills and knowledge this program offers. As a result, our students will be in a privileged position to start a career in this sector upon graduation.
