Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering (CVE) is home to outstanding academic instruction coupled with hands-on practical experience-a dynamic combination that has earned our department and our programs an enviable reputation throughout the region!

We believe that civil engineering plays a vital role in the progress and development of a modern society, for it is the art and science of designing, constructing, maintaining and managing of infrastructure. Civil engineers design and supervise the construction of roads, buildings, airports, harbors, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems and environmental engineering facilities.

The department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering. Our popular undergraduate program is a 140-credit degree that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE). Our program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, in the United States and by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Our Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) degree-which began in 2008 is a 30-credit program with a strong emphasis on research. 

Our mission is to provide students with the highest level of technical preparation, social responsibility, leadership and lifelong learning skills for successful careers in civil engineering. We offer quality education based on a nationally and internationally recognized curriculum supported by well-equipped laboratories and the most modern educational tools. We place equal emphasis on a professional environment that fosters fairness, ethics, diversity, faculty development, quality research, and outreach with industry and public agencies through the UAE.
