Faculty positions for  College of Arts and Sciences

American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a non-profit, coeducational institution of higher education formed on American models.  

The university is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and by the Ministry of Higher Education in the UAE. All instruction (except languages) is in English, and English is widely spoken throughout the United Arab Emirates.

The university is located 10 miles from the center of Sharjah City and 15 miles from the city of Dubai. The Emirate of Sharjah is situated between the shores of the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and has beautiful beaches and lovely varied countryside. The architecturally distinctive campus, located on 316 acres, includes nine academic buildings; administration, library and athletic structures; and accommodations for faculty, staff and students. Academic buildings are equipped with state-of-the art science, engineering and language laboratories, digital studios and computer facilities. Currently, AUS has approximately 5,225 students, 351 full-time faculty and over 400 full-time staff.

Faculty position in History

The Department of International Studies at American University of Sharjah seeks a full-time faculty member specialized in the modern history of the Middle East/North Africa. Candidates must be able to teach a range of courses on the history of the modern Middle East/North Africa as well as survey courses in world history.

Successful candidates will have a PhD in Middle Eastern/North African history, a record of excellent teaching, an active research agenda, and a wish to contribute actively to the interdisciplinary atmosphere in the Department of International Studies.

As a university formed on the American model, American University of Sharjah will give priority to candidates who have substantial experience in American models of higher education. Mastery of English is a requirement.

Adjunct Faculty Position in the Department of English

The Department of English at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) seeks applicants for a one or two-semester position as an adjunct faculty member teaching Academic Research Writing, Writing for Engineers, or Business Writing during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Candidates having completed a Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or TESOL/ESP (with experience teaching writing), and currently working in the UAE are encouraged to apply.
