Faculty positions for College of Arts and Sciences

Adjunct Positions in Arabic Studies

The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies in the American University of Sharjah invites applications for  part time adjunct positions in Arabic Studies beginning in the Fall 2016.The successful candidates will have Ph.D. or MA in Arabic studies (Arabic Language, literary/cultural studies, or Islamic Studies) Candidates are expected to be able to teach in English. Candidates with MA must have at least 5 years teaching experience in a relevant field.

Visiting Faculty Position in Chemistry

The American University of Sharjah (www.aus.edu) is seeking a PhD in Chemistry to fill a visiting faculty position in the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE). The appointment is for one academic year (2016-2017) and the successful candidate will be required to instruct general chemistry courses in addition to advanced courses related to the candidate's area of expertise. Position is contingent upon budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in Chemistry
  • An established record of excellence in teaching and research
  • Teaching experience in North American higher education

BCE offers BS degrees in Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences and minors in Biology, Environmental Sciences and Environmental Policy. BCE currently has 15 full time faculty members actively engaged in research in diverse areas within the three disciplines.

AUS is located in the Emirate of Sharjah, adjacent to Dubai, UAE. Visiting faculty position in Sociology

The Department of International Studies at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a one-year replacement faculty position, rank open, in Sociology for the 2016-17 academic year.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or be advanced ABD candidates in Sociology. Evidence of excellent teaching or potential for excellent teaching at an undergraduate institution is essential. The course load will be three courses a semester ranging from Introduction to Sociology to upper-level special topics courses in the visitor's area of research expertise. Ability to teach International Organizations is a plus.

Head of the Department of Arabic and Translation Studies

Faculty positions in Mathematics and Statistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for faculty positions in mathematics and statistics at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning August 2016, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants from all areas of mathematics and statistics will be considered.

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics. Evidence of strong potential in research, excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum and strong communication skills in English are expected. Experience in American-style higher education is an advantage.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at AUS offers a master of science in mathematics, an undergraduate degree in mathematics, a minor in applied and computational mathematics, and a minor in actuarial mathematics. It provides courses in service to almost every academic program campus-wide. The department currently consists of 28 full time faculty members who are actively engaged in original research in different areas of mathematics and statistics. Position in Mass Communication

The Department of Mass Communication at the American University of Sharjah seeks a full time faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor in mass communication and with a professional background in emerging media practices, such as digital non-fiction storytelling and/or multimedia journalism, beginning in Fall 2016. Preferred candidates must hold a doctoral degree in mass communication, or a related field with a dissertation topic focused on mass communication, from an accredited university, and are expected to conduct research in their area of expertise. Candidates will be expected to teach and design courses in the department's journalism concentration as well as across the discipline.

Faculty Position in the Department of Writing Studies

The Department of Writing Studies seeks full-time faculty members to teach composition at the American University of Sharjah.

Candidates should have a minimum of a Master's degree or Ph.D. in English (Rhetoric and Composition, Applied Linguistics, or related field). In addition, the candidate should have a minimum of three years' experience teaching composition in North American-style higher education and overseas experience. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching writing.
