American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a non-profit, coeducational institution of higher education formed on American models.
The university is licensed in the United Arab Emirates and incorporated in the state of Delaware in the United States. It is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and by the Ministry of Higher Education in the UAE. All instruction (except languages) is in English, and English is widely spoken throughout the United Arab Emirates.
The university is located 10 miles from the center of Sharjah City and 15 miles from the city of Dubai. The Emirate of Sharjah is situated between the shores of the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and has beautiful beaches and lovely varied countryside. The architecturally distinctive campus, located on 316 acres, includes nine academic buildings; administration, library and athletic structures; and accommodations for faculty, staff and students. Academic buildings are equipped with state-of-the art science, engineering and language laboratories, digital studios and computer facilities. Currently, AUS has approximately 5,225 students, 351 full-time faculty and over 400 full-time staff.
Adjunct Chemistry Faculty Position in the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE)
The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE) at the American University of Sharjah seeks a PhD chemist to serve as an adjunct faculty during the upcoming fall semester (September 16, 2012 - January 17, 2013). All Chemistry areas will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching chemistry undergraduate courses within a liberal arts environment.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, and name at least three referees who would be willing to write letters of recommendation. Adjunct faculty position in Mass Communication-Fall 2012
The American University of Sharjah is now accepting applications from potential part-time/adjunct professors to teach a variety of professional undergraduate courses in mass communication. Courses could include journalistic writing, advertising copywriting, integrated marketing communication, strategic communication research, public relations writing, crisis management and conflict resolution, feature and editorial writing, international communication, mass communication theory, mass media technology, news media management in print and broadcast, general media studies, or other mass communication-related subjects.
A doctorate is preferred but candidates with a Master's degree plus five or more years of professional experience in broadcast/print media and/or advertising or public relations agency experience will be considered.
Adjunct professors normally teach up to two courses a semester, two or three days a week. English is the language of instruction, but candidates with professional English and Arabic writing or broadcasting experience strongly urged to apply.
The University will also consider full-time, year appointments as visiting professors to holders of terminal degrees (either a Master of Fine Arts, or a PhD or equivalent) that also possess professional media experience.
Candidates must possess or qualify for a work permit in the United Arab Emirates.

Department of Arabic and Translation Studies, Visiting Assistant Professor, Faculty Requirement (Fall 2012)
The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies in the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a position in Arabic Studies at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning in the fall, 2012. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in applied linguistics or in a closely related field. Experience in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers is essential. Preference will be given to applicants with experience at the university level in a liberal arts environment. Knowledge of and competence in contemporary foreign language pedagogy is expected . Native or near-native proficiency in both Arabic and English is required. The successful candidate will join a department with an expanding agenda dealing with the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language.

Chemistry Laboratory Instructor (CLI)
The CLI will carry out a variety of laboratory related activities. These include supervision of laboratory sessions that could involve the use of advanced analytical equipment such as NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, IC and ICP, giving pre-laboratory presentations, grading reports and quizzes. The CLI also assists in departmental tasks as assigned by the laboratory supervisor and the department head.
The successful candidate will have a M.S. degree in chemistry, good communications skills in English, and at least three years of experience in a similar position.

Faculty Position in Mass Communication: Advertising
The Department of Mass Communication (MCM) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) seeks a full-time faculty member with a background in Advertising and Marketing. Candidates must have a Ph. D. in Advertising or Marketing Communication with extensive experience in advertising and a proven record of scholarly publications. New Ph.D. graduates with industry experience and strong research record will also be considered. Applicants with a master's degree and at least seven years of relevant agency experience are encouraged to apply. Graphic design proficiency and experience in creative advertising will be given special consideration. Preference will be given to applicants with experience at the university level in a liberal arts environment. The faculty member is expected to network with the industry and may have the opportunity to collaborate across schools or departments in the university, i.e. marketing.
The Mass Communication Program at AUS is one of the most vibrant and successful programs of its kind in the region. The advertising concentration accounts for more than half of the department students' body. MCM graduates are already recognized as being among the best in the region in the industry.
