Faculty Position in Arabic Studies
The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies in the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a faculty position in Arabic Studies at the rank of Assistant or Associate professor beginning in the Fall 2016, subject to budgetary approval. A Ph.D. is required in Arabic studies with a focus on classical Arabic literature The ability to teach entry level Arabic heritage courses is essential. The successful candidate will have a native or near-native proficiency in Arabic, while being able to teach in English. The language of instruction at AUS is English, however, candidates able to teach courses in both Arabic and English are preferred. Strong scholarly record/potential and relevant teaching experience are expected.
Applicants should have experience in and/or familiarity with the North American higher educational system, and experience in dealing with cultural and educational needs of a linguistically and culturally diverse student population. The ability to contribute to other courses offered by the Department will be a distinct advantage.

Faculty positions in Mathematics and Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for faculty positions in mathematics and statistics at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning August 2016, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants from all areas of mathematics and statistics will be considered.
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics. Evidence of strong potential in research, excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum and strong communication skills in English are expected. Experience in American-style higher education is an advantage.

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at AUS offers a master of science in mathematics, an undergraduate degree in mathematics, a minor in applied and computational mathematics, and a minor in actuarial mathematics. It provides courses in service to almost every academic program campus-wide. The department currently consists of 28 full time faculty members who are actively engaged in original research in different areas of mathematics and statistics. Faculty position in Journalism
The Department of Mass Communication at the American University of Sharjah seeks a full time faculty member in journalism at the rank of assistant or associate professor and with a professional background and expertise in multimedia journalism, digital storytelling and social media beginning in Fall 2016. Faculty Position in the Department of Writing Studies
The Department of Writing Studies seeks full-time faculty members to teach composition at the American University of Sharjah.

Assistant Professor (or higher rank) of Music
The American University of Sharjah Performing Arts Program invites applications for a position in Music. Responsibilities include: Teaching three classes per semester for undergraduate students, including class piano, sight singing, and applied lessons (voice/piano preferred), conduct scholarly and applied research, and engage in service-related activities. Other teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on background and departmental needs, but could include courses in music history. Required: Established reputation as a performer through publication and/or performance, record of successful teaching at the university level, and demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. An earned doctorate (D.M.A., Ph.D. or equivalent) in Music from an accredited institution is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. Research Associate Position
The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences (BCE) at the American University of Sharjah seeks to fill an opening for a research associate position.
The successful candidate will work on a project focused on chemical and structural characterization of dust and debris near GCC airports. The primary duties for this position are: fieldwork that involves particulate sampling and lab work that includes sample preparation, analysis and data processing. Samples will be collected near the Dubai airport during the initial phase and the collection may be extended to other airports in the GCC region in the later phases. We expect to conduct sampling and measurements during the next 18 months after hiring.
Desired qualifications/skills include:
- PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Atmospheric or Environmental Sciences; Chemical or Civil Engineering; or a related discipline
- Experience with atmospheric dust and particulate sampling techniques
- Experience with sample preparation and chemical analysis techniques for dust/particulates
- Familiarity with safety rules and procedures associated with chemistry labs and environmental processes
- Experience in analytical chemical techniques such as inductively coupled plasma (ICP), ion chromatography (IC) and various liquid and gas chromatographic techniques, as well as basic chemistry lab techniques
- Familiarity with SEM, SEM-EDS and FAAS techniques
- Knowledge of analytical software tools and Microsoft office software
- Fluency in English
- Valid UAE driver's license
The project duration, as well as the length of the appointment, is 18 months. The project is led by Dr. Sofian Kanan (PI) and Dr. Yehya Elsayed (Co-PI)).

Faculty Position in HistoryThe Department of International Studies at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates seeks a full-time faculty member specialized in the modern history of South Asia or sub-Saharan Africa . A sub-field in East Asian history is an advantage. Candidates must be able to teach a range of courses in their field of specialization as well as survey courses in world history and an upper division course on imperialism.
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in the relevant field, a record of excellent teaching, an active research agenda, and a wish to contribute actively to the interdisciplinary atmosphere in the Department of International Studies.
