Faculty Positions for College of Engineering
All College of Engineering programs are accredited by ABET. Currently, the College of Engineering has over 2200 students and 75 full-time faculty members. Please visit http://www.aus.edu/ for more information.
Full time faculty appointments are required in the following disciplines and areas of specialization. Strong preference is given to candidates with degrees (BS, MS, PhD) from a western-style university that is ABET (or equivalent) accredited. Teaching experience in an American model of higher education and work experience in North American industry are highly desirable. One-year visiting faculty appointments at all academic ranks are also welcome.
Chemical Engineering:
The Department of Chemical Engineering has an opening for a one-year visiting faculty position for the 2012-13 academic year. All areas of research will be considered, with preference for either process control or catalysis.

Civil Engineering:
The Department of Civil Engineering is seeking applicants for faculty positions (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor levels) in the areas of: (1) Construction Management/Construction Engineering; (2)Transportation/Highway Engineering; (3) Structural Engineering; (4) Water/Environmental Engineering; and, (5) Geotechnical Engineering.
Applicants must indicate in their cover letters the area to which they are applying for. Screening of applications will begin November 13, 2011. Applications received after December 31, 2011 may not be considered. Some of the positions are subject to budgetary approval.

Industrial Engineering
The College of Engineering is seeking applicants for permanent appointment with broad teaching and research experience related to Industrial Engineering (IE), starting September 2012. Consideration will be given to candidates having Bsc, Msc, and PhD degrees in industrial engineering. The appointed faculty will be heavily involved in the establishment of a new IE undergraduate program in the college of Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering:
The department is seeking applicants for a permanent appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the fields of renewable energy and mechanical systems design. The department also has several opening for one year visiting positions at any rank and all disciplines including: design and manufacturing, dynamics and control systems, or thermofluids. For permanent appointments, initial contracts are normally for three years and are renewable. Rank will be determined by previous employment history. Faculty at AUS receive competitive pay and an attractive benefits package. There is no income tax in the United Arab Emirates .
Interviews will be held at various sites. Positions are open until filled with preference to early applicants. Faculty who are appointed must be in Sharjah by August 19, 2012 for Fall appointments.

The Petrofac Chair in Renewable Energy at the American University of Sharjah
The College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) seeks a world-class researcher in the field of renewable and sustainable energy for the inaugural appointment to the Petrofac Renewable Energy Chair. The Chair has been established through the generosity of the Petrofac Limited for the purpose of advancing the development and implementation of alternative sources of energy for the future. The successful candidate will head the efforts underway at the University to establish a Center for the study of alternative energy sources. The incumbent must hold a terminal degree and qualify for appointment as a faculty member in a discipline currently housed in the College of Engineering. The new Chair will have instructional responsibilities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The successful candidate will be a leader in the field of renewable energy as demonstrated by a solid record of research, substantial publications, and peer recognition worldwide. The successful candidate will also have a strong record of acquiring external resources to support research. We are looking for someone with a history of collegiality and team building, who likewise has a successful record of mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate must be a visionary who can lead the University's effort to build an internationally recognized research center in renewable and sustainable energy.
Candidates seeking either a visiting appointment or a regular appointment will be considered for the inaugural appointment to the Petrofac Chair.
