Workshop Objectives

The main objectives of the workshop are:

• Raising the level of awareness of practicing engineers about earthquakes nature, causes and effects on constructed facilities, including buildings, reclaimed land, bridges, dams, offshore facilities, ports and lifelines.
• Drawing the attention of the authorities, decision makers, land use planners and building owners to the degree of risk and the potential damage to constructed facilities in the event of severe earthquakes such that necessary precautions and measures can be taken.
• Laying the foundation for establishing committees and task groups toward the development of codes, guidelines and regulations for earthquake resistant design of buildings and infrastructures/
• Paving of the road for future research and training in earthquake engineering at UAE higher education institutions and related government agencies.
